. jon: and this fox news alert out of minnesota where the governor just signed a new budget ending one of the longest-ever state government shutdowns. harris is live with the breaking story for us. harris? is. >> reporter: yeah. there were a lot of people wondering how this one would come together. minnesota governor mark dayton has just signed an agreement he struck with leading republicans after months of very bitter arguments over taxes and spending cuts. they were trying to close a pretty sizable deficit in their spending there, and they have been brutal on this issue for quite some time. you see some video from early on in those discussions, people on all sides of the issue. the government shut down july 1st, and that laid off 22,000 state employees, stopped road projects, people couldn't get licensing for all sorts of things like fishing and what not be, and it's a big recreational state. it cost the state millions in be lost revenue from lottery sales, tax audits, park fees and licensing fees, so on and so forth, but now they can go ahead. some state officials now saying, th

us, i'm jenna lee. jon: and i'm jon scott. new developments in the drama that grips capitol hill and the white house. dueling plans are out now on raising the limit to our nation's credit card and reducing the deficit. wendall goler, our senior foreign affairs correspondent, is live on the north lawn. wendall? >> reporter: jon, starting today house republicans will begin trying to sell their proposal to cut the deficit and raise the debt ceiling to democrats, and if they don't, democrats in the senate will then try and sell their plan to republicans. the chairman of the president's national economic council says mr. obama's address to the nation last night was a warning that democrats and republicans aren't even close. >> what the president was trying to do was let people know that we really are at a stalemate, that we have, that nothing is coming out of congress that is likely to pass be both houses and that this is a time where we as a country have to come together and have compromise and have bipartisanship. >> reporter: saturday was the last time the president and can congression

? >> jon, the big question is whether or not his defense attorneys will actually ask for this case and the charges to be dropped, and what the judge will say about that, or, if there's some other reason for them to meet. you know what, what we're learning is there are details that have come out about the accuser in this case, and her past, that even had the prosecution now asking questions about this woman. questions that this trial could hinge on, because she is their witness. the only way that they can really press sexual assault charges against dominic strauss-kahn is with her testimony, convincingly, so it has been said, by prosecutors up until now. will defense attorneys for dominic strauss-kahn then ask this judge to dismiss the charges based on the fact that the prosecution may or may not have enough evidence to go forward. we're watching this, that meeting is coming up, those manhattan prosecutors and defense lawyers, meeting in an office. as soon as we know what -- what has happened, we'll bring it to tower office. this is big news, this man lost his job behind the sexual assa

correspondent jon karl who's been all over this story from the jump. jon, we've got the boehner plan and the reid plan. everybody in washington knows neither of these things can pass, so what, if anything, is being done right now to craft some sort of compromise? >> reporter: well, there are, as you heard jim mention, quiet negotiations going on between harry reid and mitch mcconnell. trying to find middle ground. mitch mcconnell has been on the phone several times, a many told, with vice president biden over the last several days. they are trying to find one last-ditch effort to get what everybody knows needs to happen, dan, and that is something that has bipartisan support. i got to tell you, though, the atmosphere is so poisoned here, the question is, once they get that agreement, can they pass it? >> well, let me pick up on that because there's been so much tough talk, even some trash talk, i wonder if there is another wiggle room rhetorically for r e hard-liners on either side to back down. >> reporter: well, i think there -- maybe not the hard-liners, but i think there actually is wigg

. bad news in the poll for jon huntsman. 2% of the vote. hundredsman can't catch a break in the endorsement game. his former chief of staff, utah congressman and future senator is endorsing mitt romney calling him more lectable. interesting number for you this morning in iowa. iowa republicans are souring on ethanol subsidies. in a new poll conducted by consumer voter research, for the iowa republican 47% of likely republican caucus goers have a very or somewhat positive view of a candidate who wants to cut ethanol subsidies. 24% have a negative reaction to that. finally overnight, tim pawlenty's numbers got higher. he's bringing in the daughter of mike huckabee to run his campaign. she helped put together that campaign in iowa for her dad to win the caucuses and finish second in the straw poll. in an effort to engage the young and tech savvy the president is holding a tweet up this afternoon. topic is the economy and jobs but the thousands of 140 character or less queries submitted versus the ask obama hash tag includes marijuana legalization. and the rnc is going up with an ad
